Synopsis

Latina: swamps, reclamation, decommissioned nuclear power plants, humidity. Massimo Sisti is the owner of a dental practice that bears his name. Professional, kind, calm, he has achieved everything he could desire: a villa immersed in tranquility and a family he loves, accompanying him through the passing days, months, and years. His wife Alessandra and daughters Laura and Ilenia (the former a teenager, the latter not yet) are his reason for living, his happiness, the reward for an existence marked by self-sacrifice and integrity. It is into this imperturbable and calm spring that the unpredictable bursts: one day like any other, Massimo goes down to the cellar and the absurd takes possession of his life.

Director's notes
  • We chose to tell this story because, quite simply, it was the one that challenged us the most. Challenged as human beings, as storytellers, as spectators. A story that raised questions within us for which we had no (and still don't have, even with the film completed) answers that didn't contradict each other. Questioning ourselves is the most precious mission that cinema allows us, and 'America Latina' takes this possibility literally, telling the story of a man forced to re-examine his own identity. Being twins, our two previous films also told stories of families, of belonging, of blood, but we had never delved so deeply into the theme, and we chose the riskiest path for us: tenderness. Tenderness and all its extreme consequences. 'America Latina' is a film about light, and we chose the privileged viewpoint of darkness to observe it. Thank you for watching.
